Jacob Koornneef founded Delray Plants on 14 acres in Delray Beach in 1968. Since then, the company has grown to four locations in Florida, as well as two sites in Costa Rica, making it one of the largest indoor foliage production and shipping facilities in the U.S.

Recently, Jake was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. We have created Jake's Corner as a way to keep his many friends informed of his progress.

Please keep Jake, Mary, and their family in your thoughts and prayers.

Jake Koornneef went to be with the Lord this morning around 4:00a.m. He peacefully passed away at his home in Lake Placid,Florida. We are so thankful that God gave him 80 full remarkable years and for the privilege of having him share in so many of our lives. The family graciously thanks all of you for your kind support during this time and for the prayers that held them up.

These have been very sad and long days for Jake and his family. He gets weaker with each passing day. Our prayers now are that the Lord will take him soon and in peace.Please continue to hold Jake and his family up in prayer and thank you so much for your heartfelt support.

Dear Friends, There has been a major turn in Jake's overall well being. He has decided to discontinue radation treatment and requested that we bring in Hospice care. Jake is not in pain at this time but mentally has made the decision that he no longer wishes to continue in this manner. We had our initial meeting with a Hospice care coordinator who has already given the family some form of comfort and armed us with informatoin that will be very helpful in Jake's care. It is indeed a very sad time for all of us but it has also been extremely hard watching him decline so fast especially knowing how Jake has always seized each new day with unending energy. The initial evaluation has suggested that he is entering the "crisis care" period and that his remaining time with us on earth is short. With this said, if anyone wishes to write a memory of your times with Jake, whether brief or detail, we would love to share it with him at this time. I think it would bring a smile to his face and comfort to his family. Please continue to keep Jake and his family in your prayers and thank you for all of your heartfelt support.

Jake had a rough weekend. The radiation is making him very weak and tired. As everyone knows even at 80 he would rather work than sleep. He is being well taken care of by his family and friends. Ann, Holly, Marian and Pam along with this wife Mary are helping him 24-7. Visitation is very limited because of this. He did have friends from Canada and locally stop in to say hi. In keeping with Jakes faith, he had the Pastor and some elders from the church come visit on Sunday. Jake knows the Bible and in the New Testament, the book of James says "is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any oe of you sick? He shold call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord". He will continue radiation every day this week. Please pray for him to gain strength. His family send their thanks.

Jake had a bit of a set-back this week and had to be hospitalized again for dehydration and low blood pressure problems. He was released within a few hours once they had him stablized.It made an immediate improvement to his overall appearance and energy level. We are thankful for that. Please keep him in your prayers as he continues radiation therapy over the next few weeks.

Monday, March 8, 2010. Jake has completed two radiation treatments and so far is doing well with the procedure. He had a great day on Saturday mostly because he was able to visit the farm in Hardee county. He was excited to feel "back in touch" again, which is a good thing. Please continue to keep Jake and his family in your prayers. Each new day is a blessing.

Jake began an aggressive and rigid schedule of chemo treatment soon after his diagnosis. He gallantly endured five, three day sessions, every three weeks until the middle of February. Currently, Jake is home, waiting to begin radiation therapy for a tumor located on his adrenal gland. His treatment is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 4th, and will continue for approx 15-18 consecutive days. An in-home nurse visits Jake and Mary throughout the week to help monitor his medication, check his vitals, and basically assist with anything out of the ordinary. So far, all is good. Jake is comfortable at home and has started to gain some of his weight back that he lost during chemo.
